Why does my Apple Watch or other heart rate monitor show a different BPM value than my Polar HRM?

  • For optimal performance, the Polar should be worn on your bicep or forearm, which inherently will generate a different BPM read than a wrist-based device. Different manufacture sensors behave differently, and behave differently on different parts of the body.

  • Tattoo ink also inhibit the ability for heart rate sensors to maintain accurate reads.
